Resume    Biography

Michael Robert Osborne (b. 1969) is an English author writing on Christian mysticism and Western esotericism. He is immersed in the study and practice of philosophical alchemy and Christian theo-philosophy. The Societas Rosicruciana in Anglia (SRIA) Province of Greater London showcases his writing as part of " ... the living tradition of Rosicrucianism emerging in London today" [1]. Osborne is the author of several works, including The Alchemy of William Blake: The Three Principles of the Divine Essence and An Allegory on the Spiritual Condition of Man; Son of Perdition: The Magic and Hubris of Simon Magus; and The Brazen Serpent: Chaos & Order

He is best known for his scholarly introductions to Rose Circle's series of English language editions of early Élus Coëns material, such as The Treatise on the Reintegration of Beings of Martinez de Pasqually; and the first treatise of the Abbé Fournié, What We Have Been, What We Are And What We Will Become

In collaboration with Rose Circle he produced the first fully restored and complete colour publication of The Most Holy Trinosophia, drawing comparisons in his research between the origins of this mysterious manuscript and the Egyptian books of the dead.

Early life and education

Osborne was born in Northampton, England. He traces his paternal family in Northampton to the early sixteenth century. Osborne claims a possible maternal descent from Thomas Shakespeare of Rowington, the third son of Richard Shakespeare (1490-1561) [2].

He was educated in Wellingborough and studied Theology at the University of Birmingham, England. His master's degree was a bespoke study of early Ecclesiology. He qualified as a Solicitor specialising in private client law. Osborne is an Anglo-Catholic.

Author

Osborne is a Freemason. In 2018 he was awarded the prestigious Companion of Christian Rosenkreutz Award by the SRIA for his research on The Lessons of Lyons. He is currently the Director of Studies at Pythagoras College No.26 of the SRIA.

Osborne lectures and appears as a guest speaker on many online podcasts. He regularly blogs on his author website and contributes irregular articles to Watkins' Mind, Body & Spirit Magazine, which introduces the latest and most anticipated book releases, articles, and interviews from world-renowned esoteric authors. [3] [4] The magazine annually lists the one hundred Most Spiritually Influential Living People, activists, writers, and teachers.

Writer

Osborne's published works have focused on two areas. The first is research into the early Élus Coëns of Martinés de Pasqually. The second is a study of Western esoteric and occult topics such as alchemy, serpent symbolism, theurgy in the New Testament, and a possible connection between so-called intelligent hauntings and purported time slip phenomena.

Martinezism

Osborne is best known for his introductions and work on Martinezism and the core Élus Coëns manuscripts in contemporary English. His first book, The Lessons of Lyons , dealt with the notes and written commentaries of early Élus Coëns ritual and practice undertaken by the likes of Louis-Claude de Saint-Martin, Jean-Baptiste Willermoz and Jean-Jacques du Roy d'Hauterive in Lyons, France in the mid-1770s.

His work on Pasqually's Treatise on the Reintegration of Beings Into Their Original Property, Virtue and Divine, Spiritual Power was seminal, and presented a complete rendering into English of the so-called “Version A” and “B” tracts of the Treatise, which was first undertaken in French by the late Robert Amadou. In 2022, Osborne published the first English edition of What We Have Been, What We Are And What We Will Become by the Abbé Fournié. This was followed by the publication by Rose Circle of The de Grainville Manuscripts: Élus Coëns Ritual and Instruction from the Eighteenth Century  in English.

The focus of Osborne's apologetic on the Élus Coëns concerns the original Order's status as a mystical Catholic Christian fraternity of exorcists, whose objectives and beliefs were operationally consistent with the beliefs and authority of the exoteric Catholic faith.

Other Works

Osborne has written on wider esoteric and occult subjects, such as the conflict between Simon Magus and the Apostle Peter in the first century, contrasting the practices of magic in ancient times with the sacramentalism and miracles reported in the New Testament. His work The Alchemy of William Blake: The Three Principles of the Divine Essence and An Allegory of the Spiritual Condition of Man, published in 2024, examined the connection between Blake and the metaphysical beliefs of Jacob Boehme as demonstrated through an examination of the painting An Allegory of the Spiritual Condition of Man located at the Fitzwilliam Museum Cambridge

His book The Brazen Serpent: Chaos and Order examines serpent symbolism and the theory of Moses' Raised Serpent, Caduceus or Nehushtan, in the Old Testament as a metaphor for Christ. In Allegory in Stone: A Short History of the Shakespeare Monument , Osborne takes to task alternative theories of Shakespeare's authorship of his poetry and plays through an examination of the esoteric and occult symbology in Shakespeare's funerary monument in Holy Trinity Church, Stratford-upon-Avon, England. In Time Slip Phenomena: The Ghosts of the Trianon, The Legend of Lucy Lightfoot and the Haunting of William Hogarth , Osborne explored the possibility that quantum mechanics may have a role in the existence of ghosts and time perception
